Six Nations players in Coventry

Coventry and Warwickshire rugby fans have the chance to watch some of the stars of the RBS 6 Nations at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

Captain Ryan Jones, World Player of the Year Shane Williams, Gavin Henson, Alun Wyn-Jones, Mike Phillips and Lee Byrne who were part of the Wales team defeated by Ireland in a thrilling finale to this season’s RBS 6 Nations are expected to be part of Ospreys’ side.

The holders of the EDF Energy Cup will be aiming to book their place in this year’s final when they take on Gloucester Rugby in the first semi-final at the Ricoh at 2.30pm.

Mike Tindall should feature for Gloucester fresh from England’s 26-12 triumph over Scotland.

Three other Welshmen from their team’s 17-15 defeat as Ireland clinched the Grand Slam are expected to feature in Cardiff Blues’ semi-final against Northampton Saints (kick-off 5.15pm).

Gethin Jenkins, Tom Shanklin and Martyn Williams will be aiming to help their team to a place at Twickenham for the final when England’s Dylan Hartley should be playing for Saints.

Jon Duckworth from organisers Premier Rugby said this was a fantastic opportunity for rugby fans to watch some top international players in action at the Ricoh Arena.

“The EDF Energy Cup is a wonderful chance for sports fans in the Midlands to come along to the Ricoh and watch international rugby players live,” he said.

“Shane Williams and Ryan Jones are extremely talented players and they and the other Welshmen in the Ospreys and Cardiff Blues teams will be determined not to taste defeat for the second successive Saturday.

“It is all set up for two exciting matches at the Ricoh Arena which is a superb venue for top-class rugby.”
