Brummie's Sence Of Humor Put To Test For Red Nose Day

Hah Ha! Ha Ho Ho Hoooooooo Hee Hee Heeeeee! Brummies’ sense of humour has been put to the test against the rest of the nation as the SUBWAY® chain, provider of the hilarious Celebrity Ringtones for Red Nose Day 2009, tests THE LAUGHTER QUOTIENT (LQ) of Britain!  Contrary to popular belief, results indicate that Southerners laugh more than Northerners and men laugh more than women.

As an alternative to the more traditional IQ test, respondents were scored on their ‘Laughter Intelligence’, including LPD (laughs per day), ‘inappropriate laughter occasions’ and ‘making other people laugh’.  Results revealed that Brits nationwide, including Brummies, are LAUGHTER LOVERS (people gaining 13-18 points out of 24) on the LQ Grading Scale.

•    Overall Brummies laughed 9% less than their nationwide counterparts
•    Birmingham’s 16-24 year olds had one of the lowest LPD’s (6 laughs per day) in the
nation, a whopping 37% less than the national average for this age group.
•    Overall Brummies are not fans of practical jokes or winding people up, reporting that they
never use this type of humour to get a laugh
•    And women from Birmingham in particular avoid using humour that makes others feel
     uncomfortable

The nationwide research found distinct gender-specific traits with men laughing 12.5% more than women on a daily basis.  Men were also found to be more confident with their humour, with women avoiding humour that made other people uncomfortable. Both men and women admitted to sometimes laughing inappropriately, with the top three inappropriate laughing occasions being: 1) laughing at somebody falling over 2) laughing when nervous and 3) laughing during a funeral.

Mo Shapiro, creator of the LQ Test and expert Laughologist commented on the findings; “On the whole it’s good news, as a nation we are ‘Laughter Lovers’ as opposed to Laughter Learners, meaning we have a fairly high LQ. This shows that we know how to have a laugh and make other people laugh. It appears that humour plays a larger role in mens’ lives, suggesting that men take life less seriously than women. As for laughing inappropriately, I couldn’t possibly say what some of the respondents wrote down! Fortunately, such answers were few and far between!”

Gok Wan, Celebrity Ringtone star took the test and transpired as a Laughter Leader with a whopping 22 points out of 24. Gok commented: “Laughter is an important part of life and it makes you feel great.  The only thing you truly need to wear to make you look amazing is a smile.”
