Monster Week At Thinktank
Last week 11,000 people visited Thinktank to see the 200+ exhibits, and help complete a monster world record! With thousands of bags bought in by museum visitors and school groups, Thinktank attempted a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD to build the world’s largest sculpture made from plastic bags.
16,651 bags were brought in by visitors to complete the 4 metre high and 15 metre long plastic bag dinosaur called ‘Polly’ and on Friday 16 February Sir Bernard Zissman, former Lord Mayor of Birmingham and Joanne Malin, ITV Central Tonight presenter came to the museum to witness the record attempt which is now being confirmed by GUINNESS. The names of all contributors will appear on the Thinktank website, and the plastic bags will be taken away by British Polythene Industries PLC to be recycled into a bench.
The dinosaur was built to celebrate the opening of Recycle! a new exhibition that uncovers the surprising science behind household waste and highlights the importance of recycling at home. The permanent exhibition is also supported by new recycling workshops for young visitors and a ‘What a Load of Rubbish!’ interactive family science.
