High Days and Holidays

Coventry Transport Museum has pleasure in introducing an innovative touring exhibition from the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu - High Days and Holidays. Supported by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council's Designation Challenge Fund, the exhibition takes a novel approach to the theme of leisure and motoring and will be displayed in the Ariel Gallery at Coventry Transport Museum from 26th March - 10th May. Admission to the Museum is free of charge.

Travelling across times and places, from the Victorian era to the 1960s, from far flung holidays to more familiar destinations, the exhibition will illustrate some of the many ways in which motoring has enabled us to make more of our leisure time; opening up the countryside and helping us enjoy hobbies and holiday pursuits such as touring; days out; motorsport; and camping & caravanning. High Days & Holidays features a wide range of items; photos and albums, travelogues, postcards, mementoes, picnic hampers and caravanning memorabilia, and takes a light-hearted look at this much neglected aspect of history.

This is the first time that the National Motor Museum has created a comprehensive touring exhibition and it will travel around various motor museums across the country until February 2008. Coventry Transport Museum is delighted to take part in this collaborative venture, which allows a rare glimpse of an internationally significant collection of photographs and archive material, previously held in long term storage or reference collections.

Everyone is welcome to come along and experience how personal transport has expanded the possibilities for enjoying social and leisure time through history, from a Victorian 'day at the motor races' to Mods and Rockers!

Admission to the Museum is free of charge. Open 7 days a week, Daily 10am - 5pm.
