Raymond Blanc Back At The Helm
Brasserie Blanc (9, Brindleyplace, Birmingham, B1 2HS) is a French Brasserie located in Brindleyplace just a stone's throw away from the bustling city centre. The Brasserie has recently undergone a major refurbishment, boasting a warm and stylish new interior with banquette seating and contemporary art. Raymond Blanc has introduced an exciting new menu offering a selection of classic and modern French food.
Brasserie Blanc Birmingham is part of a successful chain of Brasseries, with sites located in key provincial towns and city centres including; Oxford, Tunbridge Wells, Cheltenham and Manchester, with further openings planned this year in Winchester and Bath.
The flagship restaurant originally opened in Oxford in 1996 and was called ‘Le Petit Blanc’. The concept is the creation of two Michelin starred chef Raymond Blanc. His aim was to be the best within the Brasserie scene in England - serving good quality, freshly prepared food at a price which represented excellent value. Another four brasseries were opened in subsequent years with another three brasseries planned for 2007/2008. This year has not only seen the refurbishment at Birmingham, but also the evolution and name change of Le Petit Blanc to Brasserie Blanc.
The menu offers a selection of both classic and modern French dishes whilst using only the best seasonal and local ingredients. Many dishes on the new menu are inspired by Raymond’s childhood meals his mother made including Maman Blanc’s miscellany of salads (Cherry tomato and red onion, beetroot in balsamic, dill cucumber, Jerusalem artichoke and chive, Dijon mustard carrot), truffle scented foie gras parfait (served with rustic country bread) and Paris ham, gruyere and mushroom herb pancake. The wine list is predominantly French featuring many wines sourced and bought directly from young, energetic wine makers in various regions of France. The ‘Dine with Wine’ menu offers a two course lunch or dinner (£11.50 lunch/£15 dinner) and includes a glass of wine.
