BIA Is Gateway For Regional Investment

This year, Birmingham International Airport is delighted to support Birmingham and the region as it’s public and private sector ‘big guns’ look to sell the benefits of doing business in the City, to an international delegation of 25,000 visitors and top decision-makers to MIPIM.

MIPIM is the World’s largest property exhibition, and it offers a showcase for the City and the region, putting Birmingham well and truly on the World stage.  Those with the responsibility for ‘selling’ Birmingham are heading for France this week in a drive to generate millions of pounds of extra inward investment.

MIPIM kicks off in Cannes and Birmingham’s high powered delegation, is ready to sell the attractions of the City.  Council leader, Mike Whitby, is in the vanguard of ‘Team Birmingham’. The team is ready for a relentless week of negotiations, announcements, talks and networking.

Leader of Birmingham City Council, Mike Whitby said: “We have a positive story to tell. Continued growth, £31.2 billion of regeneration in the city over the next ten years, a young vibrant, dynamic population and an economy that is the engine house to Britain.

“Having a successful, growing airport that provides a gateway to our region attracts overseas investors and developers into Birmingham as they realise our future potential.”

John Morris, Head of Corporate and Community Affairs, Birmingham International Airport said:  “Birmingham International Airport is proud to be a member of ‘Team Birmingham’ this year.  Together with our airline partners, we provide connectivity to the region that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.  Our delegation is flying out with bmibaby today – dispelling the myth that low-cost airlines are just about cheap holiday flights.  We have several low-cost airlines operating from Birmingham and they all mix business with pleasure!

“Connectivity is why Birmingham can – and is – competing on the World stage.  Inward investment is the single biggest reason that we need to extend our existing main runway – as this would allow Team Birmingham to compete – and win – when faced with other Global Cities.”

David Hodge, Marketing Director, bmibaby, said: “We are delighted that ‘Team Birmingham’ is flying with bmibaby to attend MIPIM.  We wish the team every success in their drive to secure extra inward investment which will help to attract even more visitors to the region."
