In Conversation with Meera Syal, MBE

A rare chance to get up close and personal with Meera Syal – the girl from Wolverhampton who is now one of the UK’s best-known Indian personalities. Funny, intelligent, charming and engaging, Meera Syal is a British comedian, writer, playwright, singer, journalist, producer and actress, rising to prominence as one of the team that created Goodness Gracious Me.
 
The event will be hosted by BBC Asian Network’s Nikki Bedi and throughout the evening Meera will be discussing her work as a fiction writer (Anita & Me, Life Is Not All Ha Ha Hee Hee, Sari, Jeans and Chilischoten), her stage and TV appearances (Rafta, Rafta, Bombay Dreams, Kumars & No. 42, Goodness Gracious Me and Murder Investigation Team) plus her work as a scriptwriter for the film Bhaji on the Beach. Also there’s a chance to find out what its like to be one-half of the most talked about British-Asian celebrity couples!
 
Meera Syal was awarded the MBE in 1997; in 2000 she won the ‘Media Personality of the Year’ at the commission for Racial Equality’s annual ‘Race in the Media’ awards; 2001 saw her receive an EMMA (BT Ethnic and Multicultural Media Award) for Media Personality of the Year and in 2003 she was listed in The Observer as one of the fifty funiest acts in British comedy.
 
This multi-talented celebrity has a string of accolades to her name and this evening promises to be a celebration of her achievements and an opportunity to inspire others.
