Food for thought for new NEC Catering Manager
Raising the standard for catering in the exhibition and events industry, Simon Beattie joins The NEC Group as General Manager, NEC Catering, helping The NEC on its exciting journey from good to GREAT and on to world class.
Based at The NEC, Simon is responsible for all catering on site, key accounts, exhibitions, conference and banqueting and liaison between The NEC and its retail service partners.
Catering for large crowds is part of the mix for Simon Beattie, with previous positions as Catering General Manager at Aston Villa Football Club and Project Director for the Compass Group, where he was responsible for the catering at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
The scale and diversity of The NEC Group’s catering opportunities have given Simon Beattie a great platform for future developments.
“The location of The NEC and its facilities are fantastic. The quality of food here is excellent. Now we want to focus even more on the customer’s journey. We want to communicate with our customers, making the brand visible as soon as customers arrive at our venue and build on the excellent work done so far,“ said Simon Beattie.
Catering at The NEC Group has become a more important part of the overall visitor experience, with £10 million being invested during the last three years. Launched under a brand new identity - NEC food - the investment has cooked up new menus, complete refurbishments of on site restaurants and fresh new packaging, uniforms and pocket-size guides for visitors.
Sally Davis, Managing Director, Group Catering, said: “We are proud that Simon has joined The NEC Group catering team and will bring his expertise to our biggest venue. We have embarked on a journey to transform catering at The NEC for everyone: visitors, exhibitors and organisers alike; to be trailblazing in our field and take catering within our venues on to a world-class offering. Simon’s appointment is an essential part of the strategy to move towards this goal.”
