“Eurovision” returns to Birmingham!

“As camp as Graham Norton listening to Bucks Fizz in a camper van”  Metro

In 1998 Birmingham hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.   Now, ten years on, EUROBEAT, the world’s first interactive musical, will sashay its sequinned way to Birmingham Hippodrome from Monday 9 – Saturday 14 June 2008 prior to London’s West  End.

This award-winning celebration of everything Eurovision won the votes of both audiences and critics in Australia and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2007 where it won the inaugural MTM Best Musical Award.

With worldwide TV audiences of 150 million, the real Eurovision is everyone’s secret guilty pleasure.  This new musical offers audiences the chance, at last to provide the UK with a genuine opportunity to win Europe’s greatest cultural collaboration once more!

On entering the auditorium, audience members are each allocated to one of the ten competing countries and, as with Eurovision, the audience votes for their favourite contestants via text message.  EUROBEAT has been hailed as the first interactive musical and because every performance can have a different winner both the audience and performers are virtually kept in suspense.     And even Mr Eurovision himself Sir Terry Wogan (pre-recorded!) will be there on a giant screen to help whip the crowd into a frenzy.

“An epically delirious hoot”   Variety

Heading the cast is one of the UK’s most popular entertainers LES DENNIS who plays the role of Sergei.   Les made his TV breakthrough on Russ Abbot's Madhouse, before having a hugely successful run as the host of The Laughter Show and Family Fortunes. Recently he has been appearing in more serious dramas and made an unforgettable appearance in Extras with Ricky Gervais.

Former Olympic pole-vaulting champion, lifestyle program hostess and cabaret performer “Boyka” and children’s TV presenter “Sergei” (Les Dennis) host the competition held in sunny, safe, secure “Sarajevo”.   One after another the contestants do all that they can to win the love and the votes of the audience (some of them will stop at nothing) and, whilst the votes are being tallied, Boyka captivates the audience with her moving rendition of “I’m Sarajevo… Taste Me!”.

Whether you are in love with Lulu and Lordi, are bonkers for Bucks Fizz and Brotherhood of Man or simply delirious for Dana International, EUROBEAT can’t fail to win the audience vote.
