World Premiere At The Oratory

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is joining forces with Ex Cathedra to celebrate the life and work of composer John Joubert with the world premiere of his complete oratorio Wings of Faith at The Oratory, Hagley Road, Birmingham on Thursday 22 March, 7.30pm.

Joubert has lived in the City of Birmingham for most of his life and will be celebrating his 80th birthday during the month of this performance.  He is renowned as one of the great choral composers of the 20th century and has written over 150 works.  Every year his carols Torches and There is no Rose are performed all around the world.

Wings of Faith promises to be an exceptional night of choral music with texts following on from where the St Matthew Passion leaves off and a cast including speaker, soloists, chamber choir, youth chorus and chamber orchestra.  Part one of Wings of Faith was performed in Symphony Hall in 2000 and was described in the Birmingham Post as “a masterpiece of quality…a gripping oratorio combining the spirits of both Elgar and Britten… and with a sense of liberating ecstasy which is intensely moving... Skidmore conducted as though he’d loved this piece for years,” but this is the world premiere of the complete work.

Tickets are available from The Birmingham Rep on 0121 236 4455 & Birmingham Central Library on 0121 303 2323 and cost from £7 to £22.
