Dino Day at Thinktank
On Saturday 13 December Thinktank visitors can join in some Jurassic fun with a special day of events and activities all about the fascinating science of dinosaurs. Dino Day at Thinktank celebrates 100 years since the Triceratops skull displayed in the Wildlife gallery was first excavated from the ground, and 50 years since it came to Birmingham. Families are invited to come along and join in a day of dinosaur themed activities on top of the already packed public programme of events and activities at the museum.
Visitors will be able to explore the collection of fossil casts and replicas, and discover the variety of massive beasts that once roamed the planet. There is also an opportunity to touch and handle some of the artefacts, including the tooth of a massive prehistoric megalodon shark and a skull of a fearsome sabre tooth tiger.
The resident palaeobiologist Matt Larvan will also be on hand throughout the day, talking about his experience of being a real dinosaur hunter, and discussing the techniques used to find and reveal fossils.
Little ones can join in the fun and choose from a selection of dinosaur masks to make and take home, to scare friends and family!
And alongside all this, there is a regular programme of family science shows, storytelling, tours and demonstrations. Enough to keep all the family entertained all day.
