A Christmas Carol
This year the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas celebrations will enthrall music lovers of all ages with a range of concerts to suit all tastes. Popular TV presenter Carol Smillie will be joining the CBSO family for a series of five concerts packed with festive music and stories and the CBSO’s Berkley Salon Ensemble will entertain guests at the Palm Court Christmas party.
Carol Smillie will present a selection of her chosen Christmas stories with your favourite carols and plenty of audience participation, on Saturday 20 December, 3pm, Sunday 21 December, 3pm & 7.30pm, and Monday 22 December, 3pm and 7.30pm. These five concerts feature the CBSO and around 400 members of its various choruses. All concerts will be conducted by the CBSO Chorus Director Simon Halsey and are the perfect way to put you in the Christmas spirit.
At the end of each concert there will be a charity collection for a different local charity. This year’s charities are Birmingham Children's Hospital, Birmingham Christmas Shelter, British Heart Foundation, Stroke Association, and St Basils.
For a break from the crowds at Christmas, come and join The Berkley Salon Ensemble for A Palm Court Christmas Party on Monday 22 December at 1.10pm. This lunchtime concert offers unforgettable tunes from the masters of light music, festive sing-a-longs and familiar carols as you’ve never heard them before. Step back into the 20’s, and enjoy a seasonal concert from a more leisured age.
