Christmas Events at The National Memorial Arboretum

The National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield has announced its programme of Christmas events. The Arboretum expects thousands of visitors over the coming month, with a big turnout guaranteed for a jam-packed afternoon of festive fun, including the popular annual reindeer parade, taking place this Sunday (7 December).

Sunday’s events, which kick off at midday, are a mix of time-honoured Christmas celebrations and family entertainment. For example, while carol singing takes place in the Millennium Chapel, led by renowned local organist, Arthur Tipper, outside there will be mischief guaranteed from the musical ‘Christmas Carriage’ of Mr Scrooge and Mr Scratchit.

To delight both young and old, many special guests will be appearing and all staff will enter into the spirit and don special seasonal costumes. Santa’s elves have this year been set the task of encouraging the bravest visitors to try their hand at a bit of Christmas karaoke. Later, Sister Ruth, the map cap nun, will entertain with her unique versions of Jingle Bells, Little Donkey and Mistletoe & Wine.

At just before 2pm, all of the day’s entertainers and a group of 10 elves will lead a parade for Father Christmas, who will be drawn through the centre of the Arboretum on a reindeer sleigh. Father Christmas will then spend time chatting to everyone, before taking his place in his grotto.

The Arboretum shop has a wide selection of Christmas gifts and a large choice of Christmas trees are for sale. The restaurant will be tempting visitors with a delicious Christmas carvery and mulled wine will be in ready supply.
