NOVEMBER PASSENGER FIGURES

Birmingham International Airport (BIA) handled 610,216 passengers during November, including 511,481 scheduled passengers and 98,735 charter passengers spread across the two passenger terminals; an increase of 2.2% over the previous year.

Joe Kelly, Acting Managing Director of Birmingham International Airport said: “It was another busy month at the Airport with passengers jetting off and taking advantage of our new route to Shannon with Ryanair and additional capacity to Bratislava with SkyEurope. We are now entering the winter season and are expecting a busy Christmas and New Year period.”

In November, growth was achieved on Non EU routes of 6.6% and EU of 2.2%. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 11.3%, and the Channel Isles an increase of 30.9%. Long-haul routes to Asia saw a positive increase of 11.7% and transatlantic routes saw an increase of 10.2%.

Scheduled routes that experienced growth in November includes: Bratislava (+1720.6%), Barcelona (+152.6%), Murcia (+139.7%), Paphos (+121.7%), Faro (+114.5%), Arrecife (+46.8%), Nice (+28.1%), Lyon (+25.9%), Zurich (+15.9%), Almeria (+11.6%), Glasgow (+6.4%) and Munich (+4.9%).

Charter traffic which experienced growth includes: Malta (+85.7%), Mexico (+26.3%), Maderia (+23.4%), Spain (+10.8%), Canaries (+7.3%) and Cyprus (+1.8%).

Scheduled traffic accounted for 83.8% of the total passenger traffic in November whilst charter passengers made up the remaining 16.2%.
