The NEC Group rewards excellent year in areas industry
Live events and entertainment promoters who have worked to raise the profile of the industry over the last twelve months have been recognised through The NEC Group’s Promoters’ Awards.
The inaugural Promoters’ Awards took place as part of The NEC Group’s 22nd annual promoter’s lunch, held at London’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Friday (14 December).
Promoters were honoured for attracting the highest number of visitors to events staged at The NEC Arena and The NIA.
The Grandstand Group, organisers of the Horse of the Year Show and British Showjumping Championships, were named Sports Promoter of the Year. Concert Promoter of the Year was awarded to SJM Concerts, responsible for bringing artists such as Foo Fighters and Take That to the Birmingham venues.
The title of Special Events Promoter of the Year went to the Kennel Club for their work on the prestigious Crufts dog show, which expanded into The NEC Arena for the first time in its history in 2007.
Live Nation collected the overall Promoter of the Year 2007 award for attracting over 275,000 visitors to The NEC Arenas through events including Cirque du Solieil and Riverdance, and concerts from artists as diverse as Michael Buble, Rhianna and The Police.
Phil Mead, Managing Director, Arenas, said:
“This has been an outstanding year both for our arenas, and across the whole UK live events sector. It has been a great pleasure to work with every one of the promoters and organisers who have brought concerts and events to our venues.”
“Over the last twelve months our arenas have welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors to 170 events, with attendance records being broken time and time again. The arenas market is particularly buoyant at the moment and we are looking forward to hosting an even greater number of world-class artists throughout 2008.”
The Promoters Lunch is an annual event which has previously been held at venues including the Ritz, HMS Belfast, Claridges and the Four Seasons.
