CBSO Charity Troopers Go Down a Storm and Raise £330

The force was definitely with Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers on Friday 30 October 2009 as they raised more than £300 for charity at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’s tribute to John Williams concert.

The concert, conducted by John Wilson, featured John Williams’ well-known and loved theme music including Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Superman alongside ET, Harry Potter and even Jaws. It also looked back on some of this prolific composer’s own heroes that have influenced his music like Hermann, Korngold and Newman.

The Star Wars characters from the UK’s foremost costuming group, the United Kingdom Garrison of the 501st Legion, raised £330 from generous concertgoers in the foyer of Symphony Hall during the interval. The money will go to the worthwhile charities; NSPCC, Make a Wish Foundation and MediCinema.

Scott Steele, from the UKG said: “On behalf of the UK Garrison, I would like to thank everyone at the CBSO’s Friday Night Classics concert who donated generously. The funds will help us to help some fantastic children's charities.“

John Wilson, who has been on a passionate mission to bring film music to the concert hall for over a decade said: "I thoroughly enjoyed being back in Birmingham playing some of the most popular orchestral music ever written with such a world-class orchestra. It’s also great that UKG raised some key fund for some very deserving charities.”
