Birmingham's School of Jewellery launches new website

Birmingham School of Jewellery, Europe’s largest Jewellery School, has launched a brand new website www.schoolofjewellery.co.uk. The launch coincides with Brilliantly Birmingham’s International Contemporary Jewellery Festival beginning 28th November. Designed by Boilerhouse, a Jewellery Quarter based communications consultancy, the website offers a broad range of information on courses available to students of 18 to 80 years. From full time diplomas and masters to part time workshops in stone setting and silversmithing, the breadth of choice available guarantees that everybody from those with a casual interest to budding designer- makers are catered for.

Boilerhouse, which moved to the Jewellery Quarter 18 months ago, specialises in working with public sector and not for profit organisations including central and local government, educational institutions, charities and professional and membership organisations as well as private sector organisations - from multi-nationals to start-ups.

The School of Jewellery website project marks a continued partnership between the School and Boilerhouse, which has been making a documentary about the School, following a cross section of students through the process of bringing a jewellery design from concept to realisation. The film will be completed later this year.

The website provides a stunning array of student and alumni work, and advice for potential students on making an application and preparing a portfolio. News and events act as a visual taster of the numerous events and exhibitions at the School each year from salsa dancing inspired jewellery shows to world- renowned exhibitions such as Schmuck, which visited last March.

Head of School, Jack Cunningham PhD remarked: “With access to cutting edge technology, The School of Jewellery at Birmingham City University is right at the interface between current studio practice, pedagogic development, design and research. Having such a fantastic website is the icing on the cake. Now we can tell the World about it!”

Vicky Sargent, Client Services Director for Boilerhouse says, “We were delighted to partner this local institution, Boilerhouse’s directors have had a long association with design education and design organisations and are thrilled to continue this work with a locally based world centre of excellence”.
