What’s on at Thinktank and IMAX Cinema December 2008

Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum and IMAX Cinema at Millennium Point offer a whole world of festive fun for all the family this December.

Alongside a jam-packed programme of family science shows, demonstrations and story-telling, there are loads of other activities keep mums and dads, kids and grandkids, aunts and uncles and the rest of the family well entertained this Christmas holiday.

The ‘Extreme Climates’ programme of events and activities is running until 31 December 2008 and helps visitors to find out all about the fascinating science of extreme climates in our world. Weekends and over the school holiday, families can take part in the science show, ‘Extreme Weather’ where audiences will see lightning as it happens, and witness an amazing fire tornado! Little ones can join in the fun with ‘Wanda and the Weather Woman’ for an exciting journey around the world. In this interactive storytelling session, under 8s get to encounter different climates, understand why there are seasons in the year, and find out what the weather is like on the other side of the world.

And over at the IMAX Cinema, the family Christmas films The Polar Express 3D: The IMAX Experience and Santa vs. the Snowman 3D are now showing. The Polar Express is a magical animated film, telling the story of a doubting young boy and his journey to the North Pole to find out if Santa really exists. Santa vs. the Snowman 3D is a hilarious animation about a lonely Snowman who wages war against Santa when he becomes jealous of all the attention Santa gets at Christmas time!

And if you are still struggling with Christmas shopping ideas, the gift shop at Thinktank offers a huge range of fun and fascinating gifts (many under £5.00) for even the most hard-to-buy-for friends and relatives. From sheep poo bookmarks and stationery recycled from old car tyres, to robotic bubble blowers and pocket science kits, there are great gifts for kids of all ages.
