The Drum and Stones of Ujima presents: Children of the Emperor - Album Launch
Get set for a night of great live music and top DJ's sets as one of the Birmingham’s hottest reggae bands, as Stones of Ujima celebrate the launch of their sensational new album ‘Children of the Emperor’, at The Drum on Fri 21 Nov, 9pm.
Fronted by singer songwriter; Ras Joseph, Stones of Ujima meaning ‘collective works and responsibility’ were established back in 1999. Ras Joseph an inspired Rastafarian started performing from the age of eleven and over the years he has performed alongside many international artists including Frankie Paul, Billie Ocean, Johnny Clark, and Burning Spear. Drawing inspiration from his work as a committed social worker, Ras Joseph’s songs are imbued with conscious lyrics with messages of unity, solidarity and the need to confront the social ills facing the youth of today.
Children of the Emperor whilst rooted in reggae perfectly blends an eclectic mix of musical influences including jazz to create a smooth mystic flow which is easy on the ears and spiritually uplifting. Ras Joseph who’s known for delivering scintillating performances has never sounded better; his powerful lyrics combined with his phenomenal singing voice really shines on this album.
After the success of Ras Joseph’s performance at Artsfest 2008, he has teamed up with a host of performers to bring a night of reggae to Birmingham. Playing alongside Ras will be Jah Shepherd, Basil Gabbidon and T. Dizzy, just to name a few.
