B4U presents Diwali at Millennium Point

Birmingham’s Diwali celebrations will once again light the skies over Millennium Point this year, as some of the UK’s hottest Asian artists take to the stage on Sunday 9 November from 3-7pm.

Sponsored by B4U, the event will be headlined by Jay Sean.  Having been recently been nominated for two MOBO awards, as well as receiving two nominations in the Urban Music Awards, he will be performing tracks from his latest album My Own Way.  Also performing will be Raghav, who will be returning to the UK music scene to promote his new album Identity.

Throughout the afternoon performances from new rising stars in the Asian music scene, as well as performers from the local community, will keep crowds entertained.  Other attractions include fun fair rides, a Kids Zone, a Bazaar and food stalls.  The event will conclude with a fantastic fireworks display to mark the Hindu Festival of Light.

Cllr Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport & Culture said “The Diwali celebrations will be a fantastic opportunity to bring people together at this festive time of year.  As another free event from the Council, residents from across Birmingham can enjoy a great, low cost, family friendly day out.”

Mahendra Dabhi, president of the Hindu Council of Birmingham commented, “The B4U Diwali extravaganza will have a huge number of attractions to suit all members of the family and all members of the community, and this joyous celebration that symbolises the power of good to triumph over evil has significance and meaning for all of Birmingham’s communities.”

B4U Diwali is organised jointly by the Hindu Council of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, and is also supported by BBC WM, BBC Midlands Today, Asian FX, and Eastern Media Group.  The event closes a light-themed weekend following the official Christmas Lights Switch On the previous day.
