Things that go Bump in the Black Country
As Halloween approaches, Black Country residents are clubbing together to investigate the ghostly goings-on in their neighbourhood. Online classifieds site Gumtree.com has seen a haunting number of paranormal groups in the Black Country as Brummies become amateur ghost-busters to solve spooky mysteries.
It seems that if you feel a ghostly presence in the Black Country this Halloween you may not be imagining things. Tina Higgins of Dudley brought together her group, Ghostly Sightings, through Gumtree and has conducted investigations across the UK. She has been amazed by the interest in paranormal activity in the area: “When I first advertised on Gumtree to set up the group I wasn’t sure what response to expect. I was inundated with emails from local people curious about unusual sightings in their area. Since Ghostly Sightings began investigating we have discovered paranormal activity all over the Black Country and it’s not surprising more and more groups are forming to try and explain this.”
Past investigations have included an exploration of The Crooked House pub in Himley which unearthed paranormal activity including objects moving on their own, human sounds in empty rooms and a ghost dog. A séance with bar staff made contact with a young girl murdered near the site of the pub. Another investigation at Bridgnorth Town Hall produced photographic evidence of a ghostly sighting.
This Halloween Tina and her group plan to investigate sites including a 17th Century Mansion House and a Derby Gaol to explain more mysterious activity in the surrounding area. She is inviting anyone who would like to see some real ghosts and ghouls this Halloween to join her. Trisha Routledge, Gumtree spokesperson says: “It’s great that Gumtree.com can be used to bring together people in their local community to explore hobbies as unusual as ghost-hunting. We were really surprised by the increase in people seeking paranormal groups in the Black Country, but having seen how many ghostly sightings take place in the area it’s not surprising locals want to join together for some ghost-busting.’
