Cleveland Watkiss at The Drum
“Watkiss has been acknowledged as one of the worlds most outstanding male jazz singers" The Guardian
As part as this seasons Livebox events, The Drum is pleased to welcome award winning jazz vocalist Cleveland Watkiss and his band Acoustic Jazz Trio to the stage for a musical extravaganza on Sun 23 Nov, 7.45pm.
Cleveland Watkiss was once dubbed ‘the Sonny Rollins of the human voice’ and since he co-founded the vastly influential Jazz Warriors he is now considered a well established member of the jazz scene.
Since then Cleveland’s career has gone from strength to strength and he now finds himself catapulted back into the limelight with his breathtaking new tour with his Acoustic Jazz Trio band.
This very special Trio will be performing some choice standards and originals not usually associated with singers with an on emphasis on Cleveland’s highly original jazz scatting at the forefront.
Also along side Cleveland, award winning saxophonist MC Soweto Kinch will be performing. As one of the few artists whose appeal traverses underground and mainstream audiences, Soweto plays an increasing role in the artistic life of Birmingham. He will be performing music from his new album, A Life in the Day of B19: Basement Fables.
