Explore Extreme Climates at Thinktank

It can rain cats and dogs, but can it rain frogs?
It did in Sutton Coldfield in 1954. That’s just one of the amazing facts visitors will discover at Thinktank, Birmingham science museum this half term holiday, with the new Extreme Climates season. The museum has a whole host of new events and activities to help visitors find out about the fascinating science of extreme weather in our world. The Extreme Climates season is now running until 31 December 2008.

Every day over the half term break, families can take part in the new science show, ‘Extreme Weather’. Audiences will see lightning as it happens, and witness an amazing fire tornado! Brave volunteers can also become human conductors, and find out what it feels like to have electricity pass through their own body. And if you've ever wondered what real scientists actually do, from 27 – 31 October, Thinktank has some research scientists for you to meet on the museum galleries.

Little ones can join in the fun with ‘Wanda and the Weather Woman’ for an exciting journey around the world. In this interactive storytelling session, young visitors will encounter different climates, understand why there are seasons in the year, and find out what the weather is like on the other side of the world. And on selected days, there will be a face painter on hand to transform young children into beauty or the beast!

In Thinktank’s digital planetarium the new full-dome show ‘Extreme Climates’, is also available to visitors. Audiences will be taken on a trip around the globe to find out how as our planet’s climate changes, the human race may need to search for new worlds to inhabit. What we discover in our brand new show is both shocking and fascinating.

With hundreds of hands-on exhibits to get to grips with, lots of fun tours and amazing demonstrations, visitors will be swept up in the wonder of science!
