Community’s Unsung Heroes Set for Recognition
A ceremony to recognise the efforts of those who are making Lozells a safer, greener place in which to live is being staged on October 22 thanks to joint support from Birmingham City Council, Urban Living and Midland Heart.
The Lozells Community Awards Ceremony will see ten honours handed out to local citizens and organisations for their achievements and contributions to everyday life.
The event, based around a formal dinner has been co-ordinated and planned by the Lozells Neighbourhood Management Team, part of the city’s wider Perry Barry Constituency Team, and is being staged at the St Francis Centre on Wretham Road.
Cllr Mahmood Hussain, Perry Barr Constituency Chairman and long-time Lozells resident, said: “There has been tremendous support and interest from the community for this event with local people delighted to have an opportunity to celebrate the positive aspects of local life.
“A great deal of good work is done by people in the local area, much of which goes unrecognised or unreported.
“This is the constituency’s way of thanking those citizens and organisations that are doing their bit at a grassroots level to help improve the overall quality of life locally.”
Additionally, a community networking day is being staged at Mayfield School, on Heathfield Road in Handsworth on October 25.
Set to run from 11am until 3pm, the event will give interested individuals and groups a chance to find out more about services on offer to citizens in the area, while children will be catered for with a host of fun activities including face painting and a bouncy castle.
Cllr Kim Brom, Chair of the Lozells Neighbourhood Management Board, added: “Neighbourhood management is all about bringing local services together to work in partnership on the priorities of local people.
“This community networking event is a way of bringing that partnership to life, providing an opportunity for more people to make contact with a host of local services.”
