Premier League Darts at the Ricoh Arena in February 2008

Darts fans are being urged to snap up their tickets to the 2008 Premier League Darts competition at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Three-times Premier League champion Phil Taylor and current World Champion Raymond van Barneveld will be among eight players battling for the Premier League Darts title over a three-month campaign and for a share of the £340,000 prize money.

The players compete from January to May over 14 successive Thursday nights, playing each other twice before the top four stars progress to the play-offs in Cardiff on May 26.

The Ricoh Arena is hosting the fourth league night of the 2008 competition, with four matches taking place on Thursday, February 21.

Around 3,000 tickets went on sale at 9am today (Tuesday, October 16) for the event in the Jaguar Exhibition Hall.

Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the Ricoh Arena, said the venue had received scores of telephone calls and emails since the date was announced last week.

“Darts is a popular sport in Coventry and Warwickshire judging by the volume of telephone calls and emails we have received,” he said.

“The Ricoh is among five new venues for 2008 and the £250,000 we invested in staging and seating earlier this year has helped us to secure the Premier League Darts night.

“It is a really exciting competition and it will be great for darts fans to watch the legendary Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld on the oche in Coventry.

“The atmosphere is always electric and this is another fantastic opportunity to showcase the Ricoh Arena to a national audience since it will be screened live on Sky Sports.

“Tickets are now on sale and we have around 1,000 tickets for tiered seating and 2,000 floor seats available so I would urge anybody interested in coming along to buy their tickets now.”
