Silver award for Drayton Manor
Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, has received the Silver Award for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007.
The Excellence in Tourism Awards 2007, organised by Tourism West Midlands, was held in Town Hall, Birmingham, on Tuesday 23rd October.
Colin Bryan, Drayton Manor’s Managing Director, said: “It’s an honour to be recognised once again as a major tourist attraction. Our 2007 season proved to be successful but 2008 promises to be a fantastic year.
“In Easter 2008, we will unveil Europe’s first Thomas Land to our visitors. This attraction is a major £4.5m investment, which will see the redevelopment of around 6,000sq m of the existing park in to the magical land of Sodor.
“Thomas Land will feature themed rides based on characters, including Cranky the Crane and The Troublesome Trucks. We will also showcase a brand new Thomas train that will take fans on a journey through Sodor.”
In September, Drayton Manor was named the Best UK Value Destination Award at the Group Leisure Awards 2007, which are organised by Group Leisure, a market-leading magazine for group travel organisers, with each award voted for by readers of the publication.
