Centre of Excellence Opens Up in Birmingham
The organisation that will be at the hub of the £6.7 billion regional construction industry has officially opened its doors at a new headquarters building in Birmingham city centre.
More than 70 senior figures and key stakeholders from the construction and built environment sector attended the opening of the West Midlands Centre for Construction Excellence (WMCCE) offices in Embassy House, Church Street.
The new 4,000 sq ft premises will host the region’s best practice clubs and business improvement seminars, tailored to the needs of the construction sector.
George Marsh, chairman of WMCCE and the Building Technologies Cluster hosted by Advantage West Midlands, said: “This central location will enable us to strengthen partnerships and build relationships with organisations across the region.”
Michael Ciotkowski, Building Technologies Cluster Manager at Advantage West Midlands said: “Construction is a massive industry - around £8 billion is currently spent on building projects in the region.
“WMCCE will provide support for regional businesses to achieve cost-saving best practices of up to 10 per cent and advice on how to capitalise on the major new market opportunities in the West Midlands and beyond.”
Professor Caroline Gipps, Vice Chancellor at the University of Wolverhampton said: “The contribution of business know-how and universally applied research and expertise will deliver best practice in the region.”
WMCCE is part funded by Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund and can offer subsidised, or in some cases free-of-charge, business improvement services to eligible companies.
