Birmingham restaurant Lasan wins Gordon Ramsay's F Word final
The Jewellery Quarter-based restaurant, beat off competition from 10,000 restaurants to be crowned Britain’s Best Local Restaurant in Channel 4’s F Word programme.
Head chef Aktar Islam and his co-chef Aysan Shaikh won their showdown with rivals from The Pheasant gastro pub in Cambridgeshire to land the title.
The final saw both teams prepare three courses to impress F Word diner panel, made up of the world’s most prestigious food critics. Lasan achieved the highest score and Ramsay also chose them as his top restaurant.
Jabbar Khan, group director, Lasan restaurant says: The final was a really exciting and nail biting occasion, but I am delighted that this result confirms that we represent the best of fine cuisine - not only Indian, but in competition with other international cuisines - and proud that we have represented our city and our region so strongly.
Gordon Ramsay heaped praise on the restaurant saying it offered "Some of the best food I've tasted outside India", and was "Absolutely phenomenal... it blows your mind away".
From next week, Lasan is offering a Prix Fixe F Word menu where diners can sample the restaurant’s winning dishes from throughout the competition.
