From Friday 8th January 2010, Jongleurs Comedy Club shows on Broad Street will be re-launched as ‘Famous for Comedy’, ensuring the future of stand-up comedy and live entertainment at the venue.
Aimed at lovers of great stand-up comedy, ‘Famous for Comedy’ will bring the UK’s top comedians to Birmingham. The shows will be hosted at ‘highlight’, a brand new entertainment venue that is opening on the former Jongleurs site. In addition to comedy, ‘highlight’ will also host live music and other great live entertainment.
‘Famous for Comedy’ will be launching on Friday 8th January with a special benefit gig for the Army Benevolent Fund. Known as ‘The Soldiers’ Charity’, the Army Benevolent Fund provides support to serving soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.
Ticket prices start from £9 for shows that include live stand-up comedy from at least four comedians and entry into the after-show party. ‘Famous for Comedy’ will also offer an extensive food and drink menu making it the perfect venue for parties or just a hilarious night out with mates.
As part of its commitment to making comedy nights out better than ever, ‘Famous for Comedy’ is in discussions with the broadcaster Comedy Central to explore ways that together they can change the comedy landscape and rejuvenate comedy on the high street.
‘highlight’ venue manager, Scott Hempel, said: “With ‘Famous for Comedy’ on a Friday and Saturday night we can guarantee people the funniest night out they’ve had in ages. Plus the versatility of the venue means we can host a range of fantastic live entertainment the rest of the week. We’ve got loads of new concepts planned for early next year, so watch this space and all will be revealed!”
