His Dark Materials Run Extended Due To Popular Demand
Birmingham Repertory Theatre has today announced that the forthcoming run of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials will be extended by a week due to popular demand. The production which opens on March 11 was due to run until April 13, but will now run for an extra 6 performances until April 18.
Rachel Kavanaugh, Artistic Director at The REP says of the extended run; “We are delighted with the response to His Dark Materials particularly in light of the current financial climate. By extending the run for a further week we hope that more families will be able to enjoy Philip Pullman’s wonderful stories.”
Pullman’s bestselling trilogy has been adapted for the stage into two plays. The story follows the adventures of Lyra and Will as they embark on a thrilling journey through worlds familiar and unknown. They encounter fantastical creatures in parallel worlds – rebellious angels, soul eating spectres, child-catching ‘gobblers’ and armoured bears. Many of these creatures will be brought to life by a specialist puppetry company, Blind Summit.
The production of His Dark Materials will be an epic undertaking with an acting company of 25, more than 15 puppets, hundreds of props, around 80 costumes and 81 scene changes. Full details and casting to be announced at a later date.
Following Birmingham the show will tour to Salford, Oxford, Bromley, Northampton, Edinburgh and Leeds.
