Senior Citizens Bring New Light to Kings Heath
The world famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and renowned South Asian arts organisation Sampad have teamed up to create a unique musical experience entitled “New Light” with senior citizens in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham under the Arts Champions scheme of Birmingham City Council.
This innovative collaboration of two very distinct musical genres (Western Classical and South Asian Classical music) will see 20 senior citizens composing a new work under the guidance of CBSO and Sampad musicians. The participants will gain musical skills in six creative musical sessions leading to a final performance on the 21st January at All Saints Church in Kings Heath, Birmingham, starting at 7pm.
Arts Champions is a Birmingham City Council scheme, which allocates Arts organisations such as the CBSO to be the Arts Champions for a constituency within Birmingham. CBSO have been working alongside Sampad as the Arts Champions for the Hall Green area, and on this particular project, have been working with the All Saints community in Kings Heath.
The project builds on the relationship formed between All Saints, the CBSO, Sampad, and the local community during the creation of the music performance ‘Peace in The City’ in July 2008.
