February 3 2009 marks 50th anniversary of “the Day the Music Died”

February 3rd 2009 marks the 50th Anniversary of “the Day the Music Died”, as Don McLean called the death of Buddy Holly in the song ‘American Pie’.

To commemorate this special occasion, the smash-hit West End musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story will be rocking into Birmingham Hippodrome from Monday 16 – Saturday 21 February, proving that the music, like Buddy’s legacy, lives on.

Seen by more than 20 million people in over 16,000 performances worldwide, multi award-winning Buddy is truly a ‘GEM OF A MUSICAL’ (Daily Express). Now, 30,000 ‘OH BOYS!’ since it first opened, the production is in its 20th Amazing Year.

Fifty years ago, the man who changed the face of popular music tragically died in a plane crash aged just 22. Buddy tells the story of the three years in which he became the world’s top recording artist with a show that features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including Peggy Sue, That’ll Be The Day, Not Fade Away, Oh Boy, Maybe Baby, Rave On and Raining In My Heart.
