Drayton Manor Theme Park's new attraction for 2009 - 4D effects theatre
The award-winning Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, is proud to announce its new attraction for 2009 – a sensational 4D Effects Theatre.
This new £1m attraction uses the latest in technology and film content to ensure the ultimate cinema experience.
The 4D theatre allows the audience to watch a movie in 3D while seated in specially designed chairs. These will react to scenes in the film by moving up and down, vibrating, releasing sprays of water, bursts of air, bubbles and various smells.
The combination of these 4D simulation seats, along with a high definition projection system and special effects lighting, will ensure that visitors experience a greater sense of interaction with the film compared to going to a regular cinema.
Installation of the 152-seat theatre will begin in early 2009. It will be located in the Soundstage Theatre, next to the park’s Central Plaza. The feature film will be the award-winning Curse of Skull Rock, a family adventure that tells the story of Captain Scabb’s quest to find lost treasure. The film won the Best Children’s Animated Film award at the prestigious Stuttgart Film Festival.
This new addition to the park’s already burgeoning array of rides and attractions is being supplied by Simworx, a simulation attraction and effects theatre specialist, which is based in Kingswinford in the West Midlands.
Edward Pawley, General Manager for Park Operations, said: “The 4D theatre will be a great addition to the park. Drayton Manor has an amazing mix of rides and attractions for all ages, but the 4D cinema will provide a fantastic indoor attraction for the whole family.”
Terry Monkton, Managing Director of Simworx, added: “I am delighted that Drayton Manor Theme Park will open one of our 4D effects theatres for the 2009 season. I believe this will be an excellent attraction for the park’s target market and I’m sure it will be popular with all age groups.”
The whole theme park will open for the 2009 season on Saturday 21st March. However, the popular Thomas Land™ attraction, which features 12 themed rides based on the Thomas & Friends™ series, will be re-opened for the February half-term holiday (Saturday 14th February – Sunday 22nd February).
Drayton Manor Theme Park was named Large Visitor Attraction of the Year (West Midlands region) at the 2008 Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards, held in Birmingham on 11th November.
