Discover the Science in your Fantastic Body!

It’s the start of a new year and the perfect time to look at and inside your own body!  To help families understand what goes on underneath their skin, Thinktank, Birmingham science museum, has a whole host of new human body themed activities and events, plus fascinating exhibitions to entertain visitors of all ages.

Families can join in the totally disgusting science ‘Gross Out Show’ in the Thinktank Theatre to explore the particularly gruesome secrets of the human body.  This includes discovering why snot is actually helpful, as selected members of the audience will play the part of a cold virus and battle through bogeys in the in the enormous Thinktank nose!  The audience will also compete in a hands-on digestion race to find out how hard our intestinal muscles work, and meet some real maggots to learn how these helpful little creatures are used in modern medicine today.

Youngsters can discover how different parts of the human body work in the ‘Things About Me’ gallery and all the family can find out about the latest advances in bioscience within the ‘Medicine Matters’ gallery.  This includes a special section dedicated to the amazing medical advancements to come out of the region in the ‘Birmingham Breakthroughs’ exhibition.

On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 January 2008, Thinktank is hosting a special Men's Health Event. Visitors are invited to join experts from one of the local Primary Care Trusts for a check up, and find out how the entire family can take care of their own fantastic bodies!

Over at the digital Planetarium, visitors can see the brand new FULLDOME animated science show Molecularium.  Meet Oxy the oxygen atom, and Hydro & Hydra, two hydrogen atoms, who together form a water molecule.  They also steer the Molecularium, the most fantastic ship in the Universe, able to go anywhere, from deepest Space down to the atomic level.

With a range of other family activities from storytelling to guided tours, there’s enough to keep all bodies entertained all day!
