sampad presents Vayu Naidu Company to open the Spring season's family friendly programme with imaginative storytelling. Nine Nights - Stories from the Ramayana is performed at mac Theatre on Thursday 8 February at 7pm. This performance is suitable for children 8+ years, their families and anyone who likes a bit of magical storytelling.
Vayu Naidu's unique re-telling of the much-loved story will appeal to all ages, across cultures, and is a perfect introduction to the amazing stories of the Ramayana. With entrancing music by Colin Seddon.
Vayu Naidu Company lights up the timeless and enduring world of the Ramayana, re-imagining the great Asian epic of love, death, valour and struggle among the gods and heroes with wit and contemporary insight. You will meet a magical eagle, the Golden Deer, an amazing flying monkey, a ghastly many-headed demon and mythical warriors whilst visiting a mirror palace, enchanted gardens and a monumental bridge over the ocean between India and Sri Lanka.
Vayu is Artistic Director of Vayu Naidu Company, which was set up by her in 2001, and creates new multi-cultural works to tour. The company is dedicated to new writing for theatre and performance storytelling in collaboration with musicians and composers. She explores the tools of verbal and physical language to create storytelling as performance and theatre. Within education and outreach the Company works with artists, educators and students at all levels, building bridges within communities and debating issues of diversity and diaspora.
Nine Nights - Stories from the Ramayana is presented by sampad and mac and it features as part of Moving Parts - season of dance and theatre at mac.
