Law Society Awards The College Of Law Its Top Rating For Legal Practice Course
The College of Law’s Birmingham Centre has received the Law Society’s ‘commendable practice’ grade, its highest rating in all six assessment areas for its Legal Practice Course (LPC).
The LPC is the vocational stage of legal training which prospective lawyers must pass if they wish to practise as a solicitor. The Birmingham Centre is the learning base for over 600 students studying both the LPC and the Graduate Diploma in Law – the academic stage of legal qualification. As well as full time courses the Centre is the base for a number of part-time study options for these two popular courses. The College of Law, Birmingham will also begin teaching the Bar Vocational Course for future barristers in September 2007.
The positive feedback follows a visit by a team from the Law Society which spent three days from January 7th to 10th in Birmingham looking at every aspect of the course. The College received the top grade in the six assessment areas: teaching, assessment, students and their support, learning resources, leadership and management, and quality assurance and enhancement. The assessment is subject to ratification by the LPC board.
Professor Bernardette Griffin, Director of The College of Law, Birmingham Centre, said: “We are delighted by the confidence shown by the Law Society in our course and our people here in Birmingham. This reaffirms the College’s standing as a leading legal education provider.”
