In January 2012, the Government gave the go ahead for a High Speed Rail network, called High Speed Two (HS2). HS2 will be a Y-shaped rail network providing direct, high capacity, high speed rail links between London and Birmingham and on to Manchester and Leeds. HS2 will improve capacity across Britain’s rail network, shorten journey times between major cities, boost the economy and create thousands of jobs.
The arrival of HS2 in the Midlands presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive economic growth and prosperity across the region and create a legacy in terms of regeneration, jobs, skills, and connectivity.
With the Midlands experiencing unprecedented levels of growth, now is the time to harness HS2 to create a step-change in the Midlands’ economic performance, driving growth and significantly improving outcomes for its people, businesses and places.
